Jesus told Peter that He was giving him the ‘keys to the Kingdom of Heaven,’ and the ministry of ‘binding and loosing.’ Both endowments pertain to authoritative delineation. Keys are delineating between who is in & out, & binding & loosing is delineating between what is right & wrong. Listen as Pastor Matt shows how these ideas are rooted in the Pharisee’s synagogue system. They determined who was in and out of the synagogue, and what behavior and beliefs were acceptable inside the community. Jesus tells Peter that this poorly stewarded authority that had been vested in the Pharisees would not be abolished but transferred to the church. The rightful administration of these ministries is the key to the Kingdom of heaven.
