The Protestant Reformation restored the Gospel of salvation by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, to the glory of God alone, as taught in man’s ultimate source of authority which is Scripture alone. This historic event corrected great abuses in the church. However, by misapplying the lessons of the Reformation many Christians have devolved into an autocratic understanding of Christianity where the authority and role of the church is greatly denied and rejected. We must have balance; ‘If the pendulum doesn’t swing both ways then the clock doesn’t work.’ Walk with Pastor Matt as he examines Philippians 2:19-23 showing the authority of the church, her role in discipleship, and six things we should be looking to develop in those whom we are discipling.
