The Parables of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl of Greatest Price are often interpreted as parables relating to the mysteries of conversion. In that interpretation the convert is the man who discovers the treasure, buries it again, and joyfully sells all he has to purchase the field and gain the treasure. But how do we find the kingdom & hide it again? What’s that even mean? Furthermore, what’s this field we’re purchasing that contains the treasure or Kingdom of Heaven? Listen as Pastor Matt offers an alternative interpretation and shows how it fits better within both the immediate context of the Parabolic Discourse and the greater context of the book of Matthew. Spoiler alert: Jesus, not us, is the one who buys the whole field and gains the Kingdom.
