Matthew 5:4 Happy are the Sad

November 18, 2018 By Matthew Cooke Leave a Comment

Everyone has sad times in this life. But what if I told you there were promises for mourning people? It is hard to imagine a sentence more paradoxical than our text for this morning Mt. 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. It is not a stretch to translate this verse ‘Happy are those who are sad- those who grieve, those who mourn.’ Why? For they shall be comforted. This text should bring comfort to the citizens of heaven, but God forbid it bring any comfort to the enemies of God! False comfort is dangerous comfort! Listen and see if your type of mourning is the type that Jesus promises will end with comfort.
