Jesus explained things to the disciples in explicit, plain terms. He sometimes taught the masses in that direct manner, however, Jesus normally taught them in parables without the benefit of plain & explicit speech so the disciples asked Him, ‘Why do You speak to them (merely) in parables?’ In Jesus’ answer to this question we see many concepts that are quite controversial in our day; privilege, inequity, meritocracy, justice/judgement, and mercy.
