I am sure you have heard it, and you probably know it by heart; the Lord’s Prayer, as it is often called. This passage is as memorized as any text outside of John 3:16. But is there, perhaps, much more there than meets the eyes? What if you had been there when Jesus included this prayer as part of the Sermon on the Mount, a sermon that is ‘the Gospel of the Kingdom’ (Matthew 4:23)? You would have undoubtedly heard with different ears. Context is often neglected, and because of this powerful truths are forgotten. See how this rich text points to fulfilled prophesies in the life of Christ, and, when rightly understood, serves as a powerful apologetic (or evidence) for the Christian faith.
