Matthew 1:18-25 Setting the Stage: The Work of the Trinity in the Birth of Jesus

In all of God’s works each person the Trinity is at work. They cooperated in the creation of the world as the Father spoke the world into existence (Christ is the eternal word of God by whom all things were made), and we see in Gen. 1:2 that the Spirit of God is ‘hovering over the face of the waters.’ As you look at the beginning of the narrative of recreation though the birth of Jesus, again we see all three working as the Father’s plan was carried by the Holy Spirit as He miraculously incarnated Jesus in the womb of a virgin. The Word was ‘made flesh’ and dwelled among us so that we could know God. As the Gospel has been told throughout time God has been working to save. Each Person in the Trinity plays a role in our salvation. The Father’s plan was carried out by the Son in the power of the Holy Spirit, and the Holy Spirit now applies the Son’s work to men’s hearts according to the plan of the Father. Preach the Gospel knowing that God is at work through your proclamation to make certain that His Word does not return void.
